Asklepios South Palatinate Clinics
The Asklepios Kliniken GmbH Südpfalz is to Asklepios group belonging hospital network in the district of Germersheim, with two locations, Kandel and Germersheim . The association is considered to be the standard provider of basic services .
According to the hospital plan of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate , the southern Palatinate clinics have a total of 312 beds (178 in Kandel, 134 in Germersheim). Asklepios Südpfalzklinikien GmbH has its legal seat in Burglengenfeld . The shareholders are Asklepios Kliniken GmbH & Co. KGaA with 94% and Broermann Holding GmbH with 6%. The parent company of Asklepios Südpfalzkliniken GmbH, Asklepios Kliniken GmbH & Co. KGaA, has an unlimited obligation to assume losses.
Today's clinic association goes back to the earlier district hospitals in the district of Germersheim, which were taken over by Asklepios Südpfalzkliniken GmbH as part of the Asklepios Group on August 1, 1998 following a resolution by the district council in 1996 . The so-called Bürgerhospital had existed in Germersheim since the 1830s, from which the municipal hospital arose, which was replaced by the district hospital in 1965. The Kandler Hospital was built in 1913/1914 and initially served as a military hospital before it became a civilian hospital in 1918. In 1962 a new building was built under the sponsorship of the district of Germersheim. Until the takeover by the Asklepios Group, both houses were under the sponsorship of the district

In 2017 the local daily newspaper Die Rheinpfalz reported on a "nursing emergency in the Kandel hospital". Relatives of patients reported that they had to change the bed linen themselves because there was no staff available. Intensive care places also had to be canceled from time to time due to a lack of staff. In 2017, obstetrics in Kandel was closed due to a lack of staff. In 2019, the Germersheim Obstetrics Department also had to close because all midwives had given notice at once.
