Aspasia Island

Aspasia Island is a tussock- overgrown island in the archipelago of South Georgia in the South Atlantic . It is located south of Aspasia Point .

The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2009 based on the name of the headland of the same name. It is named after the corvette Aspasia , with which the German-born commercial traveler Edmund Fanning transported 57,000 seal skins from South Georgia between 1800 and 1801.
