Associazione Nazionale Archivistica Italiana

The Associazione Nazionale Archivistica Italiana (ANAI) is the national archives association of Italy that has existed since 1949 .

history

A first attempt to found a nationwide association of this type failed at the end of the First World War , so that it was only founded in 1949. The initiative came from Emilio Re , and the first congress was held in Orvieto in October of the year it was founded . The further development can be divided into three phases, the first of which extended to 1963, the second to 1985, and the third to the present day.

Emilio Re was succeeded by Riccardo Filangeri and Leopoldo Sandri as President . In 1956 the association organized the third International Congress of Archives in Florence .

The second phase under the long presidency of Antonino Lombardo was heavily influenced by the archive law passed in 1963. This should promote the transition from an administrative unit to a historical and cultural institution. With Archivi e Cultura , a corresponding journal existed until 1985 as the official organ of the ANAI.

After Lombardo's unexpected death, Antonio Saladino was his successor for a short time. In 1986 the association's congress took place in Piacenza , where Enrica Ormanni became president. He was followed in 1996 as the first woman Isabella Orefice . During this time, the association of state archives became an association that represented all archives in the country. From 1988 onwards, the archives were organized in sezioni regionali by independent votes . Each of them now had their own self-organization facilities for cultural initiatives. With Archivi per la storia , a new association journal was also published, which replaced Archivi e Cultura . In the meantime, the trade journal is only called Archivi , and from 1993 onwards there was ANAI Notes three times a year , an information sheet that has been published since 2006 as Il Mondo degli Archivi in cooperation with the responsible ministry.

At the turn of the millennium, the association's international contacts were once again intensified. The European Conference of Archives took place in 2001 in Florence. In May 2003, the La memoria del Cinema convention took place, where archivists, librarians and conservation technicians exchanged ideas about the preservation of cinematographic material.

In 2006 and 2007 the Italian association Archiexpo organized the first event where archives were presented to the public. In January 2009, the multi-year project Archivi della Moda del 900 was presented. Maria Guercio has been President since 2015 .
