Assyrian mythology
Assyrian myths are rarely found in written versions. But they are similar to the Babylonian models (see Babylonian religion ), as the Babylonian culture and literature had a great influence on the Assyrian elite. The god of state and war, Aššur , was particularly important and was closely associated with the king of the Assyrians . Aššur takes on the role of Marduk in the Assyrian creation story . Other important gods were Ištar , for whom there was a traditional temple in Nineveh ; Ea , the magician of the gods; the weather god Adad and Nabu , the son of the Babylonian god Marduk and patron of the scribes.
