life and work

In the early 1970s Astrid Heibach began her artistic work with photographs and Super 8 films. She participates in three Sigmar Polke exhibitions with slide projections . In 1975 articles were made for the exhibition catalog Je.Nous / Ik.Wij and the exhibition newspaper Day by Day… they take some brain away in collaboration with Sigmar Polke, Achim Duchow and Katharina Steffen. Heibach produced her first video tapes in 1978 in the Oppenheim Studio, Cologne. In 1981, together with Gábor Bódy , Georg Pinter and Józef Robakowski, she founded Infermental, an international picture periodical on video tapes, and curated the first edition with Bódy from 1981–1982.

“Astrid Heibach's narrative works are equally shaped by a socially critical examination of the medium of electronics. She reflects on the perverted aesthetics of weapons in Caution Ready Los (1978), transforms into an electronic being in New Fire (1981), in the Japan Portrait Universal Input Output (1982/83) links symbolic aspects of ancient Japanese culture with the high-tech present. Goya's Maya lures you into a seductive, fascinating world behind the screen in Silent Catastrophe (1986). In Believe it or Not (1987) a porcelain pig ballerina in front of the silhouette of New York becomes transparent to the point of complete dissolution through the permanent consumption of electronically multiplied images. A Tale of Love (1988) is a modern version of the famous eulogy of Eros from Plato's 'Banquet' and I Did it (1989/90) a fictional representation of the exaggerated reality of the 'American Way of Life' using the example of the famous New York Marathon over the Brooklyn Bridge. Her installation Besetzt (1990) uses sculptural elements in addition to the electronic equipment. In 1996 the feature film With My Eyes was made , produced by the SWF. "

Astrid Heibach's artistic work has been accompanied by lecture tours in Japan, Europe, the USA and Canada. In 1988 she was guest artist in residence at the Western Front in Vancouver, Canada. From 1990 she works as a freelance film and video editor and teaches editing and editing at the Mediadesign Akademie in Düsseldorf between 2000 and 2003.
