Astrid Lulling (born June 11, 1929 in Schifflingen , Luxembourg ) is a Luxembourg politician .

Life

After finishing school, Lulling studied economics at Saarbrücken University from 1953 to 1955 . Lulling worked from 1949 to 1963 for the Lëtzebuerger Arbechter Association , a predecessor organization of the Independent Trade Union Confederation Luxembourg . From 1963 to 1971 Lulling was chairwoman of the socialist women in the Lëtzebuerger Sozialistesch Aarbechterpartei and from 1971 to 1982 became a member of the Sozialdemokratesch party (1970) , which had split off from the Lëtzebuerger Sozialistesch Aarbechterpartei. In 1970 she succeeded in entering the city council of Schifflingen, of which she was a member until 2000. From 1970 to 1985 Lulling was mayor of the city of Schifflingen. Lulling has been a member of the Christian Social People's Party since 1984 .

Lulling was a member of the European Parliament from 1965 to 1974 and from 1989 to 2014 . She did not run for the 2014 European elections.

Together with her great-nephew, the linguist Jérôme Lulling , she campaigns for the preservation of the Luxembourgish language .
