Astro Records & Filmworks

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Astro Records & Filmworks (alternatively "Astro", "Astro Records", "Astro Distribution") is a German music and film label that was founded in 1985 by Oliver Krekel .

Astro was initially founded as a pure music label for electronic music and film soundtracks. When the film enthusiast Krekel began to be interested in the medium laserdisc and realized that there were hardly any German-language publications of American blockbusters on this medium, he tried to get their licenses and then published laserdiscs since 1995, making him one of the German pioneers of this medium in the increasingly important home video market. Spurred on by this success, Astro also entered the highly competitive market for renting and selling VHS video cassettes.

When the DVD boom set in in the late 1990s , Astro had already risen to become one of the most important providers and had produced films (and some of their soundtracks) such as The Desert Planet , Léon - The Professional , Halloween - The Night of Horror , The Boat , The Lawnmower Man , Red Heat , Running Man , Knockin 'on Heaven's Door , Starship Troopers or Werner - That must be kettle! numerous mega-sellers in the portfolio.

Since 1985 Astro has published several hundred different titles on audio and video carriers. Astro products are represented by classic sales in all retail chains and are available in all shops in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. For several years the label has belonged to the "Digidreams Studios", a company owned by Nadine Krekel, the wife of the label founder. Astro guides the GVL - Labelcode LC 6976th
