Oliver Krekel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oliver Krekel (born September 10, 1967 in Kassel ) is a German director and former label boss who mainly directs trash , horror and exploitation films .

Label boss

In 1985, the trained information electronics and sound engineer Krekel founded the company "Astro Records & Filmworks", initially as a music label. The publication of laser discs and videos began in the mid-1990s . In 1997 "Astro Distribution GmbH" was founded. From 2000 onwards more than 1000 different titles were published as VHS, LaserDiscs and DVDs . They specialized in the publication of action and horror films , some of which were and are indexed and a few even confiscated. Many major titles such as Arnold Schwarzenegger's Red Heat , Running Man , Das Boot or Werner - That must be kettle! as well as the German films with Thomas Gottschalk and Mike Krüger were part of the Astro portfolio. At the end of 2002 "Astro" was discontinued as a label and from then on only existed in the form of "GmbH". Krekel then bought the naming rights of the 1980s video labels “Marketing Film” and “Starlight Film” and founded the new label “Labyrinth-Entertainment”. In 2009 “Astro” filed for bankruptcy, but the bankruptcy petition was rejected due to lack of funds. Krekel sold the naming rights of the DVD labels “Marketing Film” and “Starlight” to the film salesman Thomas Buresch (“Laser Paradise”). In 2010 Krekel revived the Astro brand and initially re-released a few horror films. The last official "Astro" release to date, "Project Genesis", took place on April 4, 2011. On September 21, 2012, the company "84 Entertainment" released a repack of the "Project Genesis" DVD in a hard box limited to 99 copies. On the back of this publication was the old "Astro" logo once again.

filmmakers

Oliver Krekel has also been active as a filmmaker since the late 1990s. In 1999, after two years of shooting, he released the film Crossclub - The Legend of the Living Dead . Other films were Fog² - The Revenge of the Executed and Crossclub 2: Project Genesis . Crossclub 2: Project Genesis , which was started by Krekel in 2002 but remained unfinished, was completed in 2010 by Jochen Taubert. In 2010, the shooting of the film Robin Hood - Ghosts of Sherwood , a Robin Hood film adaptation with zombie plot elements , began in northern Hesse . The film had its world premiere on May 21, 2012 in Cannes as part of a market screening, but had nothing to do with the competition at the film festival . Robin Hood - Ghosts of Sherwood had its German premiere on September 5, 2012 in Kassel - in front of 400 spectators. The film then ran sporadically in some cinemas from September 6, 2012. Since a date for publication on the home cinema market on DVD , Blu-ray Disc and 3D Blu-ray Disc by “Vz Handelsgesellschaft” was already fixed on October 26th in an exclusive deal with Media Markt , the company's own production company acted "DigiDreams Studios" also as a film rental company . The film itself does not appear in the official cinema charts because the audience numbers were not reported. The film had its US premiere as the opening film of the 9th 3D Film Festival in Los Angeles on December 14, 2012 as "Official Selection and Opening Feature". On March 15, 2013 Krekel's next 3D work, the documentary Tutankhamun - His Grave and Treasures , a documentary about one of the most successful traveling exhibitions in the world, was published. Next 3D productions this year were K2 - The Most Dangerous Mountain in the World , The Most Beautiful Snorkeling Areas in the World and The Best Water Slides in the World .

Krekel played in several music groups and formations. According to his own statement, Krekel worked as a DJ in L'Estartit , Spain in the Maxim's discotheque from 1987 to 1997 . At the end of the 1980s he founded the group "Contrast" and released a few records. In 1991 the three-man combo won the Italian song festival "Euronote IV" in Recoaro Terme , which was moderated by the actress and erotic actress Carmen Russo and broadcast on Rai Uno . In 1992 the formation was disbanded. Other musical Krekel projects in the following years included a. Marc Kuss & MC Turbocharger , DJ Scotty , Mr. Magoo and KiWu - The Raccoon . Krekel also produced artists such as Eike Immel , who released a hit album in 2009, and the Kassel-based funk band Mac Machine . Today Oliver Krekel appears every now and then as "DJ Remix Master Mr. Magoo".

amusement park

Krekel was also the founder and managing director of the “Kinderwunderland”, a 7000 m² amusement park in Kassel-Kaufungen, Hesse . At the end of 2009 the park closed for economic reasons and was sold again by Krekel.

Projects with Eike Immel

2008 founded Krekel along with former goalkeeper Eike Immel the "Eike Immel Goalkeeper School". According to media reports, this project is said to have "fell asleep" again in 2009. In April 2013 Krekel and Immel opened the "Eike Immel Football School" in Frankfurt. However, it is unclear whether this school still exists. At the moment (as of September 2016), their websites are not accessible or have no meaningful content, and the school's Facebook presence was last updated in August 2013.

Processes

On January 21, 2003, Oliver Krekel stood before the Kassel District Court as managing director of Astro Distribution GmbH , as he was accused of distributing 21 films glorifying violence within the meaning of Section 131 of the German Criminal Code . The proceedings were concluded after a three-hour hearing with a prison sentence of eight months, suspended for two years, as well as a payment of 2,000 euros for charity and the payment of legal costs of around 13,000 euros.
