The facility originally belonged to the local school. The planetarium was opened in 1963, making it the first in the GDR and serving as a model for numerous other buildings. The road to the planetarium was named after this astronomical station. The planetarium has 55 seats and a dome diameter of 8 meters. With the star projector, about 5000 stars can be projected onto the artificial sky.

Observatories

As the first construction of the station, a circular observatory with a diameter of 3.5 m was opened in August 1963. In 1965, a rectangular observatory was opened, the roof of which could be opened in the middle and pushed away to the side. The larger rectangular building housed several telescopes, so that astronomical observations could be carried out by several people at the same time. Today it is no longer used due to its dilapidation. The rotunda was extensively renovated in 2018 and can now be used again for astronomical observation.
