Asyncoryne is a genus of the hydrozoa (Hydrozoa) from the tribe of the cnidarians (Cnidaria) that lives exclusively in the sea . The genus consists of only two species ; it is the only genus of the family Asyncorynidae .

features

The species have a polyp and a medusa stage . However, so far only young, not yet sexually mature medusas have become known. The hydroid polyp has a short hydrocaulus that grows up from creeping stolons. The perisarc of Hydrocaulus and the Hydrorhiza is lamellar and made up of numerous, clearly defined layers. The stolonal coenosarc is divided in some places by some elongated endodermal canals. Coenosarc and Perisarc are connected by tubular channels. The hydrant is club-shaped and has a wreath with four to six solid, capitate tentacles around the mouth. Numerous solid moniliform tentacles are distributed all over the body. The Medusa buds form in the lower third of the hydrant. The young medusa has four tentacles that are covered with nettle cells. Nettle cell pockets on the exumbrella (outside of the screen) contain stenotles .

Geographical occurrence

The species occur in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. A deposit off the coast of Reunion was at a depth of 345 to 375 m.
