Atchisson Assault Shotgun

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Atchisson Assault Shotgun (German "Atchisson Sturm- Schrotgun ") is a self-loading shotgun that was developed in 1972 by Maxwell Atchisson. A number of other self-loading shotguns, such as the Daewoo USAS-12, were developed on this basis . The Atchisson Assault Shotgun can fire 360 rounds per minute semi or fully automatically with an effective range of approx. 100 m. To reduce the recoil and the rate of fire, Atchisson extended the recoil of the bolt to a maximum, much further than was necessary for reloading the next cartridge.

In 1987 Atchisson sold the rights to Jerry Baber from Military Police Systems Inc., Baber's company continued to develop the weapon. Over a period of 18 years he made 188 changes to the weapon and in 2004 produced 10 of the modified version under the name Auto Assault-12 (AA-12). These weapons were available to the United States Marine Corps for testing.

First of all, the weapon became more compact. The weight was reduced to 4.76 kg and the overall length shortened to 966 mm, although the original barrel length was left at 457 mm. An 8-round box magazine or a 20- or 32-round round magazine are available as magazines. It fires 12/70 caliber shotgun ammunition.

The AA-12 CQB has a barrel shortened to 32.5 cm and weighs around 220 grams less than the standard model.

Modified Atchisson Assault Shotguns are also used in remote-controlled weapon stations (e.g. More Industries: H2X-40 turret).
