Studio painting

The nature motifs painted in the studio are referred to as studio painting .

The term was coined in the 19th century and mostly denoted in a disparaging sense a lack of near-natural perception of reality. Many circles of artists consciously set themselves apart from studio painting. These include the Barbizon School , the Worpswede painters and the Impressionists as one of the earliest groups .
