The Cauberg is an elevation on the south side of the Göhl valley with a street of the same name in Valkenburg in the Netherlands .

The road is about 800 meters long and overcomes a difference in altitude of about 60 meters. The average gradient is eight percent, at the steepest point it is over eleven percent. At the top there is a spa area with u. a. a thermal bath and a casino .

The Cauberg is known internationally for cycling . It has hosted four world championships to date and has been a regular target of the Amstel Gold Race for several years . The third stage of the Tour de France 2006 ended in Valkenburg with the Cauberg as the final ascent two kilometers from the finish. Together with the wall of Huy and the wall of Geraardsbergen , it is one of the most famous climbs of the spring classics in cycling.

Since 2006 there has been a memorial column on the Cauberg in memory of the cyclist Jan van Hout , who was born in Valkenburg and who died in 1945 in the Neuengamme concentration camp , as well as for other famous racing cyclists. They were destroyed by vandals. The local council decided in 2020 to stop the renovation. In 2012 the Hill of Fame was unveiled on the Cauberg , a series of steel plates with inscription, with which the cycling world champions are now honored.

The largest memorial on the Cauberg is a chapel in memory of the members of the resistance who fell in the province of Limburg (Netherlands) during World War II . On the walls are the names of 324 resistance fighters from all over the province. It was opened on May 18, 1958. At this point, on September 5, 1944, the members of the Knokploeg Zuid-Limburg (Kampfgruppe Südlimburg ) Scheng Coenen and Jupp Francotte were murdered by occupation soldiers shortly before the liberation of Valkenburg. Every year on May 4, the nationwide memorial ceremony takes place here. Until 2005 there was also the annual celebration of the Association of Former Resisters of the Province of Limburg (Voormalig Verzet Limburg) in September.
