Respiratory league

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Respiratory League is a non-profit registered association based in Bad Lippspringe . It was founded in 1979 to sustainably improve the care of patients with respiratory and lung diseases, especially asthma and COPD , in Germany and to create more public awareness for these respiratory and lung diseases. To this end, recommendations and guidelines were developed and advanced training courses were offered for doctors and patients. The Respiratory League is financially supported by large pharmaceutical companies.

tasks

The work of the Respiratory League includes:

  • the publication of recommendations for prevention, diagnosis and therapy including rehabilitation for patients with respiratory diseases, especially asthma and COPD
  • the advanced training of doctors,
  • informing patients and the public,
  • the support of programs for prophylaxis and early detection of respiratory diseases
  • the promotion of pneumological research
  • as well as the promotion of quality assurance in diagnostics and therapy and
  • Statements on current problems in the care of patients with respiratory and lung diseases.

Guidelines for doctors

An important instrument for ensuring the quality of medical care are guidelines drawn up by experts, which bundle the available current knowledge and derive recommendations for medical action from it. For most respiratory diseases, this important task is taken over by the German Respiratory League in cooperation with the German Society for Pneumology and Respiratory Medicine . Guidelines for diagnosis and therapy have been developed for both asthma and COPD. The guidelines present the requirements for a modern treatment of asthma and COPD in a comprehensible manner and systematically show the diagnostic and therapeutic approach. In addition to the detailed long version, there is also a short version of both guidelines, which makes practical information available quickly and clearly, as well as leaflets with the most important tables and diagrams.

For special topics and practice-relevant questions without sufficient data there is the possibility of summarizing the state of the art in the form of recommendations. This has the German Respiratory League u. a. implemented for spirometry , body plethysmography and physiotherapeutic respiratory therapy .

Advanced training of doctors

NASA and COBRA were designed in such a way that resident doctors can integrate the training well into the practice process. For several years the German Respiratory League has been offering train-the-trainer seminars for outpatient patient training. In these seminars, doctors and practice employees receive a lot of practical advice on how to organize and conduct patient training with NASA and COBRA and can actively train their teaching activities. A table flipchart with slides about NASA and COBRA is also available.

Information for patients

The German Respiratory League offers brief and understandable information on almost all relevant pneumological topics. It also publishes guidelines for patients that have been developed based on the scientific guidelines in cooperation with patient associations. Asthma and COPD diaries or emergency passports and personal advice complete the offer for patients. Patients can contact the office with individual problems by e-mail or letter.

Patient training with NASA and COBRA

Standardized patient training as an integral part of medical intervention is now the consensus of all those involved. The German Respiratory League has therefore developed structured training programs for both asthmatics and COPD patients: NASA (National Asthma Training Program for Adult Asthmatics) and COBRA (Chronic Obstructive Bronchitis with and without Emphysema - Outpatient Training Program for COPD Patients). Both training programs are aimed at adult patients.

Teacher training

Projects such as “Equal Opportunities for Asthma in School ?!” help to improve the situation of children with asthma in school by offering further training to teachers and trainees.

financing

The Airway League has published that the office of the German Airway League is financed from membership fees as well as from contributions from a support association. The association is made up of 20 leading pharmaceutical companies whose names have also been published. These companies include, for example, Novartis , Sanofi , GlaxoSmithKline , Pfizer , Bayervital and Boehringer Ingelheim .

Others

The German Respiratory League is a member of the Deutsche Lungentag eV, whose secretariat is also located in the Prinzenpalais . The respiratory tract league takes an active part in health days and is committed to expanding the range of lung sports groups.
