Athalia cordata is a plant wasp from the family of sawfly (Tenthredinidae).
features
The species reaches a body length of 7 mm. The orange plant wasps have a black colored upper side of the thorax and a wide black band on the sides and on the lower side of the thorax. The head and antennae are black, the legs orange. The white tarsi are spotted black. The transparent front wings have a black stigma and a black front edge. Arge ochropus looks very similar to Athalia cordata . The main distinguishing feature is the three-part antennae of the Arge species.
distribution
Athalia cordata is widespread in Europe. It is the most common of the nine Athalia species found in the British Isles .
Way of life
The plant wasps are particularly observed in April and May as well as in August and September. You can often find them on Günsel ( Ajuga ). The blue-black larvae feed on Creeping Gunsel ( Ajuga reptans ), snapdragons ( Antirrhinum ) and plantain trees ( Plantago ). The species was found in yellow insect traps in potato fields. Among the parasites of Pflanzenwespenart heard the wasp Tetrastichus hylotomarum and Raupenfliege Vibrissina turrita .
