Athenodoros (mercenary leader)
Athenodorus was a Greek officer in Alexander the Great's army .
Life
During Alexander's journey to India, Greek soldiers were left as a garrison in Bactria , among whom there were 326/325 BC. Chr. Came to unrest. Fearing punishment, they occupied the castle of Baktra and encouraged the locals to refuse. The leadership of the rebels took over Athenodorus, who assumed the title of king. His goal was to return his troops to their homeland. However, after a short time he was murdered at a banquet by the Margianer Boxos , who had been instigated to do so by the Greek Biton , a rival of Athenodorus.
