Athlitiki ( Greek Αθλητική , German (Die) Sportliche) formerly Athlitiki Icho ( Greek Αθλητική Ηχώ , German Sportliches Echo) was a Greek sports newspaper.

The editorial office of the newspaper, which first appeared on October 1, 1945, was Athens . It appeared every day except for public holidays and was the oldest of its kind in Greece and the Balkans . For decades it was considered neutral and reported on the various sports and sporting events from national and international events. The focus of the reporting was on football . For many years, and even though more and more sports newspapers appeared in Greece, it was the highest-circulation of its kind.

In the 1990s, however, the image of the newspaper changed fundamentally. After several changes in the editorial team, the newspaper lost its position of supremacy in the highly competitive Greek market and, as a result, its neutrality . From then on, the newspaper, like its sister newspapers Derby and I Prasini , was the mouthpiece of the largest Greek sports club Panathinaikos Athens .

On October 25, 2007, 62 years after its founding and after 18,192 issues, the Athlitiki Icho was published for the last time after massive financial problems. It was replaced on the following Friday by the sports newspaper, which was published under the new name Athlitiki , and whose layout and content are heavily based on its predecessor.

The newspaper reported on all sports in Greece as well as major sporting events abroad. Although the main focus was on Panathinaikos, other clubs in Greece were also reported.

The newspaper was distributed throughout Greece and Cyprus. The newspaper was also available in cities abroad with a high proportion of Greeks in the population, such as Düsseldorf , Frankfurt am Main , Stuttgart , London and Paris .

The newspaper was last published in November 2008.
