Atomic predicate
Atomic predicates (also called: primitive predicates ; semantic primitives or semantic building blocks ) are the semantic base units in generative semantics . These can describe the meaning of lexicon entries . They are "basic expressions of a semantic metalanguage, with the help of which the meaning of natural language expressions should be represented (...)."
The procedure for isolating atomic predicates is the lexical decomposition ( lexical decomposition ). Atomic predicates determine the entire meaning of the lexemes because of their internal syntactic structure.
In English, terms such as primitive predicate , atomic concept or semantic primitive are also used for this.
