Karakan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karakan was a Turkish-speaking rap group from Germany .

Career

Karakan was founded in 1992 by Alper Aga as a solo project. Alper Aga was a member of the English-speaking rap group King Size Terror at the time . Karakan's first release, the maxi-CD "Defol Dazlak", which was produced, financed and distributed entirely in-house, quickly achieved cult status among Turkish youth in Germany. A year later, kabus kerim and big porno ahmet joined Karakan, who would soon appear as the core of the rap formation Cartel .

The formation Cartel , which consists of the three groups Karakan, Da Crime Posse and Erci E. , recorded a joint LP that sold 500,000 units in Turkey within a week. This success was made possible in part by the major record company PolyGram and the strong media interest in Germany. The Cartel achieved superstar status in Turkey, where rap and hip-hop otherwise played a very subordinate cultural role.
