Atomic minister

At the federal level, atomic ministers were the heads of the atomic ministry of the Federal Republic of Germany until 1962 .

The Federal Ministry for Atomic Affairs , as its official name was, was founded in 1955. In 1957 it was renamed the Federal Ministry for Nuclear Energy and Water Management and in 1962 the Federal Ministry for Scientific Research . In 1969 it was named the Federal Ministry of Education and Science , which it retained until its reunification in 1994 with the Federal Ministry of Research and Technology. By renaming it in 1998, it was given the current name of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research .

The first atomic minister was Franz Josef Strauss , his successor on October 16, 1956, Siegfried Balke , both CSU .

The establishment of an atomic ministry was, along with the establishment of EURATOM, the most important component of German nuclear policy . The former duties of the atomic minister are currently carried out by the ministers for research and the environment .
