Atta Mohammad Noor
Atta Mohammad Noor (* approx. 1965) is the governor of the Balkh province in Afghanistan . He was raised to his post by President Hamid Karzai in late autumn 2004 and removed from office by President Ashraf Ghani in December 2017 . The Tajik Atta is in a direct power struggle with the Uzbek General Abdul Raschid Dostum . He was a teacher before the Soviet invasion, then a mujahideen, and later a Northern Alliance commander . Atta is criticized for acting like a mafia boss and enriching himself with the reconstruction of the country. The allegations range from the suppression of unpleasant reporting to set fire to businesses.
