Outwork

As external work a is between Hauptumwallung and glacis built fortification referred to such as the caponier , the Ravelin , the demi-lune , the horn works , the Kronwerk and Tenaille . External works, which were built contiguously or only separated from each other by narrow gaps, form a second line of walls called an envelope , as it was planned in various manners since the late 17th century .
