Aubergwarte

The Aubergwarte is a lookout tower on the 811  m high Auberg in the municipality of Großgöttfritz . The Auberg is the highest point in the Zwettl district in Lower Austria .

history

A wooden platform first built in 1888 by the Austrian Tourist Club was dismantled at the beginning of the 20th century due to its disrepair.

In 1937 the Federal Office for Metrology and Surveying set up a high stand for surveying work on the Auberg and used it as an observation post during World War II . In 1963, a new, wooden surveying tower was erected on the same site and dismantled again in the mid-1970s.

The current observation tower with a height of 27.55 meters dates from 1992. 130 steps lead to the 23.4 meters high roofed observation platform.

Due to the special construction of the tower with a surrounding staircase around the central tripod construction, the BHW Großgöttfritz and the market town of Großgöttfritz were awarded the Golden Trowel in 1993 as the highest Lower Austrian award for building design.
