Großgöttfritz is a market town with 1,381 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Zwettl district in Lower Austria .

Geographical location
Großgöttfritz is located about 9 km south of Zwettl in the Waldviertel in Lower Austria.
The area of the market town covers 40.06 km². 41.53 percent of the area is forested.

The municipal area comprises the following eight localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):

The community consists of the cadastral communities Engelbrechts, Frankenreith, Großgöttfritz, Großweißbach, Kleinweißbach, Reichers, Rohrenreith and Sprögnitz, plus the settlement of Ritschgraben assigned to the village of Kleinweißbach (emerged from the Brettnagelmühle on Purzelkamp , after 1823 assigned to the Kleinhaslau community and again assigned to Kleinweißbach in 1858 ).

Population development
According to the results of the 2001 census , there were 1,468 inhabitants. In 1991 the market town had 1,394 inhabitants, in 1981 1,410 and in 1971 1,496 inhabitants.
