geology

The flat, undulating landscape of granite and gneiss did not always shape the landscape of today's Schweiggers. In the Paleozoic , huge mountains towered up in what is now the Waldviertel. Due to the erosion of the mountains down to the base, today's granite and gneiss plateau was left, which belongs to the Bohemian masses . In the west of the municipality, the Weinsberg granite predominates, in the east (Walterschlag, Sallingstadt, Limbach) paragneiss of the Ostrong unit ("monotonous series").

landscape

The landscape of the municipality is characterized by wooded hills, valleys formed by rivers and small structured fields and meadows. The highest point in the community is the Holmberg (738 m) near Siebenlinden, on the top of which there is a 30-meter-high observation tower.

climate

The climate can be described as a "cool mountain climate". The average annual rainfall is 695 mm, of which 70% falls in the summer half-time. In winter, an average of 1–1.5 meters of snow falls. The number of days with frost is very high at 133 days (4.5 months).

history

The name Schweiggers is derived from the Old High German first name Swidger and appears in the documents for the first time around 1182 as "Swichers". The name changed over the centuries until it appears in 1643 as "Schweiggers".

In 1394 the community was granted market rights and thus has a spacious market square in the center of the village.

In 1966 the market town of Schweiggers was merged with the communities of Mannshalm (with the cadastral communities of Mannshalm, Streitbach Schwarzenbach and Meinhartsschlag) and Perndorf (with the KGs Perndorf, Kleinwolfgers and Unterwindhag).

In 1971 the second amalgamation took place with the municipalities of Sallingstadt (KG Sallingstadt and Walterschlag) as well as Limbach (KG Limbach and Windhof) and Siebenlinden (KG Siebenlinden, Vierlings, Brunnhöf, Bichlhof, Groß Reichenbach and Reinbolden).
