Kirchberg am Walde is located in the Waldviertel in Lower Austria. The area of the market town covers 37.78 km². 36.32 percent of the area is forested.

history
Kirchberg was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century. It was originally a castle church complex with a street to the west. From 1580 Kirchberg is documented as a market .

Since the population peak in 1880, the population has been decreasing continuously. In the last few decades the birth balance was almost balanced, but the migration balance was negative.

Culture and sights
- The baroque parish church of Kirchberg am Walde , dedicated to St. Dedicated to John the Baptist , it was built from 1709 to 1713.
- The baroque parish church Süßenbach , built in 1840/1841, integrated parts of the nave of the previous church with two short transverse arms .
- The parish church Weißenalbern stands next to the Rauhenstein fortress .
- On the road to Hirschbach is the so-called Red Chapel, which was built in 1659.
- The baroque, early classicist, medieval castle is located on a step in the south of the village.
- Former All Saints Hospital : From 1715 to 1719 the former All Saints Hospital was built as a foundation of Count Kuefstein . It is located west of the main square and was used to receive beneficiaries. The cross-shaped complex has the choir tower of the integrated hospital church in the middle. Also noteworthy is the late Gothic twin spiral staircase , which was probably removed from a medieval castle and transferred here.
- The former pillory with a crowning Justitia figure, marked 1714, is located on the town square .
- Outside Kirchberg, halfway on the road to Ullrichs, there is one of the best preserved gallows in Austria (marked 1743).
economy
There are 83 agricultural and forestry businesses in the community , 47 of which are full-time businesses (as of 2010). In the manufacturing sector, 13 companies employ 56 people, 40 of whom are engaged in the manufacture of goods and 15 in construction. 145 people work in 45 companies in the service sector. The three branches of social and public services, trade and accommodation and catering employ most people (as of 2011).
