Reinhard Haberfellner

Reinhard Haberfellner (born May 11, 1942 in Kirchberg am Walde , Lower Austria ; † January 14, 2020 ) was an Austrian economist and organizational scientist. He was rector of Graz University of Technology and general director of Styria Media AG.

Life

Reinhard Haberfellner studied mechanical engineering at the Vienna University of Technology from 1959 to 1965 after graduating from high school at the age of 16 and mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Graz and graduated in 1965 as a Dipl-Ing. In 1972 he was at the ETH Zurich at Walter F. Daenzer with the work the company as a dynamic system for Dr.sc.techn. PhD. From 1966 to 1979 he was a management consultant at the business administration institute of the ETH-Zurich and has supervised various extensive projects with regard to organization (process organization, structural organization, reorganization).

In 1979, Haberfellner was offered a chair for business management and organization at Graz University of Technology and was head of the institute for business management and organization. From 1983 to 1985 he was Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at TU Graz and from 1987 to 1989 Rector at TU Graz.

From 1995 to 1998 he was general director and chairman of the board of the Styria Media Group ; he transformed the printing and publishing house Styria into a media company. For his services to Styria Medien AG, he was awarded the Great Gold Medal of Honor of the State of Styria. He was a member of various supervisory and advisory boards in business and in academic committees.

He has published several books and numerous scientific articles. His Systems Engineering work is the standard work of planning methodology worldwide.

In addition to his academic and economic activities, he was involved in many church and other organizations, including in the field of adult education in the Austrian Urania for Styria , of which he was president from 1991 to 1995.

Haberfellner was married and has two children. He was a member of the Catholic student union K.Ö.St.V. Babenberg Graz in the ÖCV .
