Rupert Böck

Rupert Böck (born September 19, 1845 in Vienna ; † January 30, 1899 there ) was an Austrian mechanical engineer and university professor . He was rector of the Vienna University of Technology and director of the Bergakademie Leoben .

Life

Rupert Böck studied at the Imperial and Royal Polytechnic Institute in Vienna, from 1867 he was an assistant at the Technical University of Brno . In 1871/72 he worked as a designer at Escher-Wyss in Zurich. From 1872 he was a private lecturer for mechanics and mechanical engineering and from 1875 full professor for mechanics and general mechanical engineering at the Bergakademie in Leoben (today the Montan University). In the academic years 1885/86 and 1886/87 he was director of the Berkakademie Leoben . From 1887 he taught at the Graz University of Technology .

In 1889 he was appointed full professor of technical mechanics and mechanical engineering to succeed Karl Jenny at the Vienna University of Technology. In the academic year 1892/93 he was elected rector of the Vienna University of Technology . In 1893 he set up a mechanical-technical laboratory there, which was later developed into the Technical Test and Research Institute (TVFA). Among other things, Böck carried out investigations into processes during rolling .

Rupert Böck died in 1899 at the age of 53. His son Friedrich Böck was also rector of the TH Vienna.
