The Rauhenstein fortress is a former defense structure in the village of Weißenalbern in the market town of Kirchberg am Walde in Lower Austria . The building is a listed building .

history

Initially, the building was a Kuenringer watch and signal tower . The main walls are from the 13th century. An Ortolf von Kirchberg was mentioned in a document in 1289. In 1343 a Rudolf von Rauhenstein was named. In 1592 a Hannibal was named from Sondernhof zu Kirchberg am Walde. In 1743 it was converted into a bulk box . In 1752 it was sold to two farmers.

architecture

The rectangular four-storey fortress under a hipped roof stands in the west of the parish church in Weißenalbern and was originally surrounded by a circular wall. The masonry is made of granite rubble and has walled-up arched windows with walls and, on the top floor, rectangular and arched windows. Insert holes of a wooden weir corridor have been preserved in the masonry. On the north side there is a spiral staircase from the 16th century.
