Hirschbach is a market town with 576 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Gmünd district in Lower Austria .
geography
Hirschbach is located on the Moosbach in the upper Waldviertel , around 15 kilometers east of the district capital Gmünd . The area of the market town covers 7.89 square kilometers. 55.66 percent of the area is forested.
Community structure
The municipality includes the following two localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):
- Hirschbach (512) including Rottenbach
- Stolzles (64)
The community consists of the cadastral communities Hirschbach and Stölzles.
Hirschbach is a member municipality of the Waldviertler StadtLand region .

history
Hirschbach was first mentioned in documents in 1280, the district of Stölzles for the first time in 1413. The market survey of Hirschbach took place in 1666. There were fires in the village in 1619 and 1868.
With the Lower Austria. Municipal structural improvement was forced to January 1, 1972 Hirschbach with the market town of Kirchberg am Walde merged. Against this, a citizens' initiative fought back and on January 1, 1985 Hirschbach became an independent municipality again.

Population development
After a sharp decline in population from 1910 to 1981, the community has been growing since then. This is due to a positive balance of migration , the birth balance has been close to zero in the last few decades.

Culture and sights
- Former Hirschbach Castle
- Catholic parish church Hirschbach to Exaltation: The first documented in 1332 mentioned castle chapel was a Protestant Renaissance - hall church . It was expanded in the 16th century as a Protestant castle church of the former Hirschbach Castle from 1470 to 1612 in the possession of Count Strein . In the first quarter of the 18th century, it was redesigned in the Baroque style and expanded to the east in 1836 with a nave yoke and a tower.
- Stölzles 'local chapel: The neo-Gothic Stölzles' local chapel, consecrated to the Holy Family , was built in 1892/1893.
economy
There are 23 agricultural and forestry businesses in Hirschbach, eight of which are full-time businesses (as of 2010). In the manufacturing sector, six factories employ 21 people, mainly in the manufacture of goods. The service sector gives 31 people work, mainly in the area of social and public services (as of 2011).
