The Kirchberg am Walde Castle is a castle in the Austrian municipality of Grafendorf bei Hartberg and is under monument protection . Since 1925 it has served the State of Styria as an agricultural college.

The castle was built around 1130 by Count Ekberg II von Formbach-Pitten as a castle . It was the seat of power and the starting point for the settlement and management of the municipal area. After it was destroyed by the Turks, the castle was rebuilt in 1532 by Count Trauttmansdorff , who were the owners from 1443 to 1669. From 1670 to 1802 it belonged to the Counts of Auersperg , who are reminded of the stone Auersperg coat of arms on the main portal . In 1802 Hieronymus Wolf came to power, in whose family it remained for almost a century. Then the castle changed hands several times. In 1923 it was acquired by the State of Styria.

Since 1923, Kirchberg am Walde Castle has housed an agricultural school as an educational center for agriculture and forestry in Eastern Styria.

According to the chronogram , the listed Marian column near the castle dates from 1667 and was probably erected as a thank you for the victory over the Turks in the battle of Mogersdorf in 1664.
