Echsenbach is a market town with 1274 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Zwettl district in Lower Austria .
geography
Echsenbach is located in the Waldviertel in Lower Austria. The area of the market town covers 23.13 km². 21.65 percent of the area is forested.

history
Echsenbach, the noble seat of the von Ochsenbach family , was first mentioned in a document in 1175.
Population development
According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1249 inhabitants. In 1991 the market town had 1259 inhabitants, in 1981 1214 and in 1971 1315 inhabitants.
politics
Mayor of the market town is Josef Baireder, Maria Kletzl's head of office.
In the market town council there after the local elections of 26 January 2020 on a total of 19 seats following distribution of seats: ÖVP 15, the FPÖ and SPÖ 2 2 seats.
Culture and sights
- Austria's only schnapps glass museum with around a thousand exhibits from the Harald Rath collection.
- Twice a year Glass Art Weeks (glass blowing in the glassworks).
Economy and Infrastructure
In 2001 there were 36 non-agricultural workplaces, and according to the 1999 survey there were 90 in agriculture and forestry. According to the 2001 census, the number of people in employment at the place of residence was 586. The 2001 employment rate was 48.27 percent. The largest employer in the community is Hartl Haus Holzindustrie GmbH .

The market town of Echsenbach is a member of the ASTEG micro-region .
Personalities
- Rudolf Franz Eichhorn (1853–1925), pastor and social reformer, was born in the Kleinpoppen district.
