Echsenbach is a market town with 1274 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Zwettl district in Lower Austria .

geography

Echsenbach is located in the Waldviertel in Lower Austria. The area of ​​the market town covers 23.13 km². 21.65 percent of the area is forested.

Echsenbach, the noble seat of the von Ochsenbach family , was first mentioned in a document in 1175.

Population development

According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1249 inhabitants. In 1991 the market town had 1259 inhabitants, in 1981 1214 and in 1971 1315 inhabitants.
