Langschlag is located in the west of the Waldviertel on the upper reaches of the Zwettl (river) in Lower Austria. The area of ​​the market town covers 61.13 square kilometers. About 52 percent of the area is forested.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1209.

Langschlag appears in the purchase protocols as "market" as early as 1740, and in 1923 the market rights were reassigned.

Population development

According to the result of the 2001 census , there were 2008 residents. In 1991 the market town had 1978 inhabitants, 1981 1914 and in 1971 1655 inhabitants.
