The Audi Forum Neckarsulm is a representative building by Audi AG, located west of the city center and south of the Audi factory on NSU Strasse and Christian-Schmidt- Platz. The building was designed by the Düsseldorf architects Beucker Maschlanka und Partner (BM + P) and opened in 2005 after a five-year construction period.

Construction work

Audi Forum Neckarsulm (July 2005)

The Audi Forum was built in three sections. First the new customer service center was built by September 2002. In a second step, the six-story car park with 180 parking spaces was completed by November 2003. The elongated and light-flooded construction of the actual forum made of glass, steel and aluminum was designed by the Düsseldorf architects Beucker Maschlanka und Partner (BM + P). The aluminum facade is intended to be a reminder of the leading role Audi AG played in the series production of vehicles with aluminum bodies. The steel supporting structure is probably modeled on the space frame of the Audi A8 . The building was designed in such a way that the glass front opens onto the city. Inside the 100 meter long and 18 meter high building there are three floors, which are designed in an oval shape. The oval shape is intended to create the impression of movement and to indicate the main concern of the car manufacturer.

Functionality and use

The following functions will be integrated in the building: handover of new vehicles for those who want to collect them themselves, a brand exhibition, the Audi shop with espresso bar, the “Nuvolari” restaurant and conference rooms. As Audi employees see themselves, the Audi Forum is an open communication platform.

The current range of models is presented in the foyer on the ground floor. In addition to the 14 handover points for the delivery of new cars, there is also the “Nuvolari” restaurant, a film room, current exhibition models and a large area that can also be used for events.

The first floor, which can be reached directly from the parking garage, is used for direct customer care. This is where the reception, the Audi shop with integrated espresso bar and the “Audi exclusive individual studio” are located, in which, for example, original samples of all available materials are available and in which you can put together your own car. From here, visitors and those collecting themselves can plan their factory tour.

The second floor is reserved for the Audi brand exhibition. Furthermore, there are five conference rooms on the second floor with the latest presentation and media technology. These individual rooms can be converted into a hall for up to 200 people by opening partitions. These rooms are also used for specialist lectures and cultural and social events.

The Audi Forum Neckarsulm had almost 1.8 million visitors since it opened in 2005 to 2014. Since then, cultural events have taken place regularly during this period, such as music concerts by Marlon Roudette with almost 1,750 visitors, book readings by Christoph Maria Herbst, young formats such as slam poetry or conferences, business forums and specialist lectures.

Audi brand exhibition

The Audi brand exhibition is on the second floor. It consists of historic automobiles and two-wheelers. At these selected exhibits, you can review 100 years of the history of motorized vehicles and remember that car production in Neckarsulm began in 1906 with NSU . The success story of NSU-Motorenwerke, which merged into today's Audi AG in 1969, is continued to the present day by the Audi site in Neckarsulm. (In the picture from July 2005, the NSU casino is still reflected in the facade of the Audi Forum at the top right.) The exhibits document both the racing successes of NSU and Audi as well as the technical innovations of both companies in vehicle construction. Examples of racing are: the NSU 6/60 Kompressor racing car , which won the 1500 cc class at the 1926 German Grand Prix at the AVUS , the Audi R10 TDI - winner of the 2007 24-hour race in Le Mans - and an NSU Rennfox "Blauwal" , on which Werner Haas won the German and Rupert Hollaus the 1954 world championship. The NSU Ro 80 with NSU Wankel rotary piston engine by inventor Felix Wankel is an example of technical innovations . Innovations were often first tested in racing and later adopted in series vehicles.
