The Audi Rosemeyer , also known as the Audi Project Rosemeyer , is a concept vehicle from Audi AG . The name is derived from the car racing driver Bernd Rosemeyer , who died in an accident in 1938 and who achieved great success with Auto Union racing cars - the predecessor of Audi - before the Second World War . The study also cites the Auto Union racing cars of the 1930s.

Background and technology

The sports car was presented for the first time on June 1, 2000 at the opening of the Autostadt in Wolfsburg and later at other auto shows . Series production of the vehicle was not planned.

The mid-engine sports car has a body made of brushed aluminum. The radiator grille is reminiscent of the Auto Union Silver Arrows ; The style of the hood's air inlet slots has also been adopted. There are also stylistic elements of the Type 52 , a sports car designed by Ferdinand Porsche and Erwin Komenda in the 1930s, but not built.

Audi writes about the engine: “Like the Silver Arrows, a 16-cylinder mid-engine could also power this flat coupe.” It is not known which engine or whether an engine was installed in the study. The cockpit is puristic like the Audi TT , and the four-spoke steering wheel again establishes the connection to the Auto Union racing cars. The interior is lined with fireproof Nomex ; a rearview mirror was dispensed with in favor of a camera system. Further technical data are not known. Numerous design elements of the Rosemeyer can be found in the later Bugatti Veyron .
