The Audio Engineering Society, Inc. ( AES ) is an international professional association founded in 1948 for sound engineers as well as scientists and development engineers in the field of audio technology as well as sound transmission and storage in consumer systems and vehicles. It organizes international conferences, publishes a scientific journal (JAES, since 1953, initially 4 issues a year, since 1971 10 issues a year) and develops standards and recommendations for the field of sound engineering . AES is also known for its standards , such as the AES3 digital interface, which is also known as AES / EBU in technical jargon .

The seat of the association is in New York. There are sections (groups) of this association in 41 geographical regions of the world.

Two conventions take place every year, in spring in Europe and in autumn in the USA. Change the venues. In addition, conferences on specific topics are held at irregular intervals. Part of the congress is a trade exhibition.
