On the grain

Auf's Korn is a march by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 478). The work was performed for the first time on June 28, 1898 in the Vienna Prater .

Remarks

The march is the last composition by the aging Johann Strauss for the Vienna men's choir. The background was an Austrian federal rifle festival that took place in Vienna in June 1898. The text of the march came from the Viennese writer Vincenz Chiavacci (1847–1916). In the trio of the march, Strauss used the existing music from the Kaiser-Franz-Joseph-Jubiläums-March (without opus number). The world premiere on the occasion of the aforementioned shooting festival took place in the Vienna Prater under the direction of choir master Eduard Kremser and an orchestra known as the Vienna Cyclist Band . In the years that followed, the march was rarely played. The next performances are booked for the years 1927 and 1975. The march is certainly not one of the composer's most successful works.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 2 minutes and 18 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
