On the wings of song (Mendelssohn)

Auf Flügeln des Gesanges ( MWV K 86) is a song based on a text by Heine by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy . It is the second of his “Six Chants with Accompaniment of the Pianoforte” (Opus 34, No. 2 / MWV SD 13, 1834). It is a setting of the poem Auf Flügeln des Gesanges by the German romantic poet Heinrich Heine (1797–1856), which was published in 1827 in his book of songs . Franz Liszt arranged the setting of Heine's poem Auf Flügeln des Gesanges by Mendelssohn for solo piano. Even Stephen Heller (1813-1888) Piano Improvisations Op. 67 is On Wings of Song basis. The lyrics have also been translated into many other languages.
