On the wall on the wait

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Auf der Mauer, auf der Lauer is a children's song based on the principle of the gap text song .

In the course of the song, one sound is removed from the words “bug” and “dance” for each stanza, until finally a break has to be made. In a more difficult variant, “an” and “can” are shortened accordingly. The song can also be used as a pawn game: if you make a mistake leaving out the sounds, you have to give a deposit.

  1. Bug, on, dance, can
  2. Bug, on, dance, can - this step is often skipped.
  3. Wanz, on, dance, can
  4. Wan, an, tan, can
  5. Wa, a, ta, ka
  6. W, -, t, k
  7. -, -, -, -

The oldest known print of the song is by Georg Lehmann: Nuremberg children's songs in the magazine Das Bayerland (Volume I, 1890). From the beginning of the 20th century it can also be detected in Silesia, Saxony, Württemberg, Baden and Lower Austria.

In the GDR, the song was sometimes sung with an ironic reference to the Berlin Wall and the Stasi , since the term “bug” can also be used colloquially for a listening device .

The song is thematically related to the play song Look at the sackcloth and the drinking ritual song Behind the stove is an old satchel .
