Residence permit

According to German law on foreigners, the residence permit was a form of residence permit that was issued between 1991 and 2004 in accordance with the then applicable Aliens Act (Section 27 Aliens Act). It was unlimited in time and space.

Holders of a residence permit had reached the highest level of consolidation of the stay. Holders of residence permits had special protection against deportation .

Legal position since January 1, 2005

With the entry into force of the Immigration Act , the Aliens Act ceased to be in force on December 31, 2004 and was replaced by the Residence Act on January 1, 2005 . A residence permit in the form of a residence permit no longer exists. The settlement permit was introduced in their place . A residence permit that was issued before January 1, 2005 continues to be valid as a settlement permit (Section 101 (1) of the Residence Act).
