Resurrection of Christ is a painting by Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino and was created between 1499 and 1502. It measures 52 × 44 cm and is painted with oil paints on wood. The motif is the resurrection of Christ.
Little is known about the history; the image was probably part of a predella , possibly the Baronci altarpiece.
Image composition
Centrally depicted is Jesus floating in the air. He is holding a St. George Cross flag and is flanked by angels ; below, figures (lying and standing) look up at them. The majority of the figures show a hand gesture pointing towards the sky. In the lower center of the picture is an empty podium. On the left there are 3 women. The figures are embedded in a landscape with a rising sun.
exhibition
The image of Christ was exhibited in various museums in Europe and has been part of the permanent collection of the Museu de Arte de São Paulo in Brazil since 1958 . It is the master's only painting that is permanently in the southern hemisphere .
