Church of the Resurrection Viernheim

The Protestant Church of the Resurrection (also called "Ringkirche") on the Berliner Ring in Viernheim was built in the local style at the beginning of the 20th century .

history

In 1890 a branch of the Lampertheim parish was founded for the then still small Protestant minority in Viernheim . The services initially took place once a month, then every two weeks in the counseling room of the parish council, which the Viernheim parish gave them free of charge. After the number of evangelicals in Viernheim had grown to 300 around 1900, the first considerations were made for building their own church. The church building was built according to plans by the architect Reinhardt Has from Darmstadt and inaugurated in Advent 1902. In 1914/15 a rectory with a nurses' station was built next to the church.

In 1917, to mark the 400th anniversary of the Reformation, a so-called Luther oak was planted in front of the church from a seedling from Martin Luther's property in Wittenberg. The magnificent tree is now a natural monument.

In 1966 the church was given its current name. In 1968, a community center, the Christ Church , was built for the Protestant residents in the west of the city . In 1993 the community was divided; the Christ church congregation and the resurrection congregation have been independent since then.

Furnishing

The organ with 18 registers was built in 1985 by master organ builder Dieter Noeske from Rotenburg an der Fulda .

In 2002 the chancel was redesigned for the 100th anniversary by the artist Peter Schöffel, Worms.
