The Church of the Resurrection in Wolnzach is the main church of the northern section of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm .

history

In the 1990s it became apparent that the previous church, consecrated in 1966, was no longer sufficient for the evangelical community in Wolnzach, which has now grown rapidly. For this reason, initial discussions about a replacement building began in 1996. However, it was not until 2001 that the church council finally made the decision to replace the old church with a new parish center with a church. Due to financial difficulties, the project had to be repeatedly postponed. In 2002 it was possible to acquire a plot of land, but the start of construction was not yet in sight. An architectural competition could only be held in 2005. Finally it was decided to implement the design by the architect Günter Forster. In 2006, the Wolnzach market proposed an exchange of land that moved the church from the outskirts to the center of the market. This initially delayed the start of construction and also increased the planned construction costs from 1.4 to around 1.7 million euros.

Construction began on March 13, 2007 with the groundbreaking ceremony. A symbolic laying of the foundation stone took place on April 27, 2007. The originally planned inauguration on the first of Advent could not be kept due to the weather. That is why the Church of the Resurrection was only inaugurated on March 2, 2008 in the presence of Regional Bishop Weiss, Dean Schwarz and many other guests of honor. About a year later, on March 22nd, 2009, the consecration of the three bells took place.

architecture

The relocation of the property shortly before the start of construction made some minor changes to the architecture necessary. However, the original design by architect Forster could largely be adopted.

In addition to the actual worship room, a number of other group rooms are available in the Resurrection Church, some of which can also be used to enlarge the worship room. The church tower is on the forecourt in the upper corner of the property, set apart from the actual "L" -shaped building. For cost reasons it was initially planned not to build a tower. In view of the new internal location, however, the decision was made to build an 18 meter high tower.

Naming

The name Resurrection Church was chosen based on the mother church in Pfaffenhofen, the Kreuzkirche . Just as in Christianity the death of Jesus Christ, symbolized by the cross, is inextricably linked with the resurrection of Jesus Christ , the naming should express the togetherness of the two parts of the community.
