Hold-up

Stopper: On the rear animals of the team (left pair), stopper chains connect the collars with the drawbar glasses

The hold-ups are part of the harness when driving or working on horses .

Holders connect the drawbar of the wagon to the breastplate harness or the collar harness of the horses via the tiller goggles . Their function is to stop the car while braking or when driving downhill and to prevent the draft animals from evading sideways . Hold-openers are only used on wagons with a drawbar (as opposed to a fork in a single carriage ). In earlier times, the execution of the hold-up provided information about the status of the driver (see equipage ).
