Firing weapon

With firing guns , the breech is closed before the trigger is operated and the cartridge is already in the chamber . The slide only moves after the shot has been fired in order to eject the case and feed a new cartridge ("the chamber is shot open"). Firing weapons are more precise than firing weapons because of the fact that the breech block is only moved after the shot .

In addition, they are better protected against the ingress of dirt by the front closure. Since it is not possible to tell whether a cartridge is in the barrel when the bolt is closed, some of these weapons have a charge level indicator, for example a pen, which protrudes from the weapon housing when a cartridge is in the chamber. In the case of the pistol 08 , the extractor that protrudes when loaded is labeled with the word “Loaded”, the Swiss assault rifle 57 has a load indicator protruding from the top of the housing.

Most self-loading pistols , assault rifles and modern submachine guns are shooting weapons . Examples are the HK G3 assault rifle , the HK MP5 submachine gun , the HK G36 , the M16 and the Kalashnikov .

The disadvantage is that the cartridge may spontaneously ignite in the overheated chamber. In addition, it can be overlooked that when the magazine is removed there is still a cartridge in the chamber when the gun is firing.

Special case combination weapon

One of the few exceptional handguns that have both modes - single fire shooting, continuous fire shooting - is the Paratrooper Rifle 42 and the American Johnson M1941 / M1944 .
