The Ruger SR9 is a self-loading pistol with a 9 × 19 mm caliber . The pistol is designed for both police and self-defense.
With this weapon, the weapons manufacturer Ruger & Co Inc brought its first self-loading pistol with a caliber of 9 × 19 mm onto the market.
technology
The pistol works with a recoil loader with a rigid lock. The polymer frame allowed a low weight and still proved to be extremely reliable and stable. A safety device was installed on the trigger (from April 9, 2009, see section Defects ) which prevents a shot from being released if the weapon hits something or falls. The hand padding of the pistol can be inserted flat or slightly rounded by ejecting the pen, so that every shooter can make use of his preferences. In addition, there is a Picatinny rail on the front of the handle, to which various aiming aids can be mounted. Ruger himself offered all Ruger SR9 buyers a green laser for half the price for a while. However, this can only be bought in Switzerland with a special cantonal permit. The polymer handle is supplied in black (standard) or olive green.
The stainless steel slide has some special features. If there is a cartridge in the cartridge chamber, an indicator with red lines flashes up on the side. On both sides of the slide there is a safety device which makes the pistol comfortable even for left-handers, as there is a button on both sides of the handle that can be used to eject the magazine . The sights are fully adjustable laterally and in height and are provided with white dots, which make shooting possible even in darker places. The slide is available in the colors silver (standard) and black.
There is space for 17 cartridges in the magazine , as these are loaded in two rows. Holes on the side of the black magazine show how many cartridges are left in it.
With many pistols, dry shooting is not recommended. The Ruger SR9 can be fired dry, but it is necessary that there is an empty magazine in the pistol.
defects
On April 9, 2009, Ruger announced that they would have to make changes to the SR9.
Under certain circumstances, the loaded and unsecured pistol could fire a shot if it fell to the ground. The pistols whose serial number was 330-30000 were affected. This was fixed by adding in the above fuse, which Ruger offered for free.
