The association's journal " appearance! " Is the official newsletter of the Association of German Ubootfahrer eV (VDU) and is used according to § 1 of the Articles of Association of the information of the members of the association. The International Standard Serial Number of the magazine is: ISSN  2196-3908 . For historical reasons, the magazine bears the subtitle “ Circuit Coast ”, because from February 1962 to December 2012 the magazine was produced in A5 format under this name. The submariners of the Kriegsmarine understood "coast switching" to mean a long-wave connection to coastal radio stations . These radio links were used to communicate with submerged submarines (up to a maximum of 30 m water depth).

The magazine contains u. a. Contributions to the history, technology and strategy of the submarine weapon as well as current information from the 1st submarine squadron , the German Navy and from the work of the VDU and the submarine comradeships organized in the association.

The circulation amounts to 1,500 copies. The magazine is printed in color and has A4 format and 48 or 52 pages. 5 issues are published per year. In addition to the print edition, there is also an ePaper version that is only accessible with password protection.
