Upbringing (military)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the military sector , growth refers to the increase in the performance potential of an army. The term is used in the German-speaking area in the military sector in this specific sense and can hardly be translated into other languages. So the term Aufwuchs is simply adopted in English . In Russian , the term for growth Рос ( German : Ross ) is used in the translation . The term growth is used in the military in connection with programs for personnel and material-technical reinforcement of the army, with the mobilization of reserves ( growth strength ) and the need for quantitative increase and qualitative improvement.

The Swiss Armed Forces offer one of the clearest definitions in the study Perseverance and Growth . It says: " Aufwuchs describes the 'increase in the performance potential of the existing army in the areas of doctrine, organization, training, material and personnel in the event of an emerging concrete deterioration in the security environment and on the basis of political decisions'. With the growth, the army should acquire the capacities in good time that it (still) lacks in order to counter a clearly emerging and specific threat. "

Application examples

From the guidelines for planning out the new Bundeswehr :

“Reservists continue to make an indispensable contribution, especially as a guarantee of the armed forces' ability to grow and regenerate for national defense as well as deployment. […] A modular, material skill building allows a step-by-step approach in qualitative and quantitative terms. The quick acquisition of a limited increase in skills is more important than the greatest possible increase in quality. "

From the new conception of the Bundeswehr reserve :

“In addition, through the suspension of compulsory military service, the reserve is gaining in importance for the armed forces being adapted to the respective situation. Its presence throughout the Federal Republic of Germany ultimately increases its importance as an intermediary between the Bundeswehr and society. [...] The general reserve includes all reservists who have not been assigned and is ready for a possible, long-term expansion of the Bundeswehr. It is also the mediator between the armed forces and society. "
