August Ernst Cup

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The August-Ernst-Pokal ( abbreviation : AEP) is a competition between youth fire brigades , which takes place annually alternately nationwide and limited to the area around the city of Hamburg .

The idea for the trophy was born in 1976 by the Hamburg haulier August Ernst (1927–2015) and the then state youth fire department warden Ernst Günther Rehder. The first competition took place in 1977. The FF Oldenfelde-Siedlung has been responsible for the execution and management of the cup since 1981 and since then the cup has been held annually in Hamburg. The trophy has been held nationwide every two years since 1988.

Only invited groups can take part in the trophy, which is organized at federal level. As far as possible, there is always the same group of participants consisting of around 20 to 25 teams from all over Germany. Fire fighting technology, general knowledge, skills and natural history are tested during the games.

Basic principles

Four points are particularly important in order to achieve the goal:

  • Before the start of the competition, no competitor knows which tasks will be set. This prevents a single exercise from being trained for weeks beforehand.
  • The exercises should be practical. So there are no negative points for a twisted hose line. Instead, the sensible use of the devices is assessed.
  • All members of a youth fire brigade belong to the competition team (minimum strength: 1/8) and can also be deployed. Nobody is excluded.
  • All tasks are rated equally. Various tasks are given an additional time rating (e.g. fire-fighting attack on a timed basis).

The referees should not only note down points of failure, but should explain the correct solution after an exercise. Originally, as many tasks were set as teams were reported. Today there is a fixed number of exercises, some of which are worked through in parallel by several groups.

referee

The referees have been provided by comrades from the FF Oldenfelde settlement from Hamburg and their wives / men since 1981 . The comrades also work out the individual exercises.

Rating

The referees assign max. 10 failure points. In the case of exercises on time, so-called time errors also occur. Since 2004, the behavior of the group has also been assessed. The winner is the group with the fewest points.

Comparable

The AEP is most likely to be compared with the national competition of the German youth fire brigade , whereby it should be noted that this only applies to the so-called A-part of the national competition.

criticism

Many observers of the Hamburg competitions think that some tasks are too difficult for their youth fire brigade. You have to keep in mind that the competition in Hamburg has been held since 1977. The high level of difficulty has developed over the years. He is definitely desired by the young people. Incidentally, the competition should not only ask about knowledge, but also impart knowledge.
