The August-Kühne-Haus is a corporate building under construction for the Swiss transport and logistics group Kuehne + Nagel in downtown Bremen . Plans were presented in 2016, and since 2018 a multi-storey office building has been under construction on the site of the old parent company and on formerly urban land.

The Kuehne-und-Nagel building is being built on the site of the old headquarters at the corner of Martinistraße / Wilhelm-Kaisen-Brücke directly on the Weser. Construction is taking place on the grounds of the demolished old company building, the "Albrecht Kühne House", and an area of ​​roughly the same size that the city of Bremen sold to the company. The building complex is based on rectangular shapes and will be built using a concrete cast construction method. The “tower” on the eastern front was originally supposed to be 44 meters high, five meters higher than the previous building. The building should offer space for around 725 employees and have a gross floor area of ​​around 13,500 m²; its facade should be clad with light sandstone. The outer facade should consist of a light-colored concrete-sandstone mixture. The view of the historic buildings such as the Bremen Cathedral and the Martinikirche behind the building should not be impaired too much by the new building.

According to the company, the planned construction costs amount to 26 million euros; the design comes from the Hamburg office of MPP.

The first construction phase began in 2018. In a further step, a three-storey central building and another office building will be built along Martinistrasse.

Political controversy

There were political disputes over the city's decision to sell Kühne and Nagel the additional land required by the city at a third of the usual market price. The construction department defended the decision with Bremen's interest in keeping the company at this location.

On the occasion of the topping-out ceremony in 2019, there were protests against the company. A memorial to commemorate the expropriation of Jews in the Third Reich was originally intended to be built directly on the building; it is now being built away.
